Assimilation

2015

wood, chain, my wardrobe, dry cleaning poly bags, wire hangers, fortunes

65 x 70 x 25 in.

Examining the relationship between identity and stereotypes, Assimilation is a site-specific artwork originally installed in an abandoned dry-cleaning establishment. Featuring my clothes contained in plastic and labeled with fortunes, the artwork attempts to call into question preconceived notions and realities of the Asian-American experience from a personal perspective.
