Made of the Chinese characters 刃 (the edge of a knife or blade) and 心 (heart), the word 忍 (endure, bear, tolerate, restrain) lays bare the fraught aches of its meaning. In the midst and in the wake of incredible violence and loss, Love, If We Can Stand It asks: how can we dispel numbness and better sink into the weight of our living?
